Vincent York says, "Jazzistry is a story of the history, artistry and ethnic roots of jazz that explains how music integrated races and cultures a long time before the civil rights movement. But above all, it's an American history lesson that makes a lot of sense, with a sensational soundtrack."

PERFORMANCES

The sensation of Jazzistry remains with any audience that experiences it, from age eight to eighty. Its live performance has unmatched energy. History is vividly brought to life. And the music is arousing because it is rooted in our collective American psyche. This is a performance for everyone. Find out how Jazzistry gears itself appropriately for different audiences, about prices and how to book a gig.

  SCHOOLS

Any age school audience can benefit from Jazzistry's multi-media combination of story telling and musical illustration. But the content emphasis and length of performance vary depending on the age of the audience.

Young students delight in discovering that the ice cream truck’s tune is in fact the ragtime classic, The Entertainer, by composer and pianist Scott Joplin.

Middle Schooler's relish the self-expression of jazz in the form of improvisation when musicians push the limits, experiment and do their own thing!

High school students can figure out the big picture with music and history intertwining—exactly how the Free Jazz of the 1960’s mirrored the political unrest and climate of protest over Vietnam and civil rights.

For teachers (no knowledge of jazz required!) As part of booking Jazzistry, we offer a teacher's idea packet with an overview of the presentation, suggested classroom activities and resources.

School Workshops and Residencies - Links to Jazzistry! Directly after the performance we offer a workshop with all the musicians in the band and in the time leading up to Jazzistry, we offer the option of a series of artist-in-residency sessions with Vincent. Great follow up or preparation for Jazzistry!

  EDUCATION CONFERENCES

To these groups Jazzistry exemplifies the role of the arts in delivering an educational message effectively. Endeared to the musicians and their music, listeners are led to think and look candidly at the social and political issues contained in the program’s content.

  community

Multi-generational audiences get a rare treat when Jazzistry is featured at special events, festivals, museums, through religious and civic organizations, health care organizations or as part of college and university programming. Jazzistry masters the job of education and entertainment, indoors and out-of-doors, abbreviated and expanded, to racially and culturally diverse audiences, to a mix of jazz enthusiasts and novices!

workplace

This program is a lively, inspiring introduction for diversity workshops, trainings and conferences. Shown to employees or shared with affiliate businesses, it is a presentation that energizes and enriches a corporate culture. We can really shake things up in a good way! From a marketing perspective, sponsoring a Jazzistry performance as a gift to the community or to a neighboring school can garner so much positive publicity, good will and appreciation. It's giving back in style!
